Fall is in the air. Temperatures are dropping, the sun is setting earlier, and everything pumpkin spice is back on the shelf. All we are missing is a little color in the leaves overhead. For all you fall lovers out there, those days are nigh. The green in the leaves of summer comes from chlorophyll. Chlorophyll is the chemical in plants that turns sunlight and water into food through photosynthesis.

SPOKANE, Wash. — Wildfire season in the Northwest is expected to be active this year. The El Niño that brought warmer temperatures and drier conditions to the region this past winter will continue through most of the summer. There are signs of La Niña conditions forming, but the cool, wet pattern likely won’t return until later this fall. An abnormally warm dry winter in Washington and north Idaho led to a below-average snowpack in the Olympic Mountains, North Cascades, and the Northern Rockies.

SPOKANE, Wash. — The National Weather Service office in Spokane, Washington confirmed a landspout tornado west of Davenport at 4:50 p.m. Tuesday afternoon. A trained spotter recorded the rotating condensation funnel on the ground. There is no confirmed damage at this time. A landspout tornado is a non-supercell tornado. Different from a supercell tornado, landspouts typically form from the ground up to the cloud and tend to be a bit weaker than their supercell counterparts.

SPOKANE, Wash — There are a lot of places to ski in the Northwest, but there is only one 'Dude.' For decades, Dude has been operating the lifts at Mount Spokane Ski & Snowboard Park in eastern Washington. "You learn to deal with the elements," he says. And this year, the elements have not been the best; ask Dude and he'll tell you. "Slushy and wet... And then we have snirt. Which is snow-dirt mix." Dude has a lot of ways to describe the snow, but there is one word he won't use.

Incredible video of the dust and wind in Moscow, ID. From Matt Johnson, the metal is the roof of a building and those are power flashes in the distance near the end! https://t.co/j3fKIDuWJw
