SPOKANE, Wash. — The 2025 wildfire season has all the ingredients to be a bad one. This spring has already been abnormally warm and abnormally dry, a trend that is likely to continue through summer. Parts of the region face drought. It's not nearly as bad as it is in other parts of our country, but it's what's dry right now that is of greatest concern. Both the Cascades and the Northern Rockies dealt with season-long moisture deficits.

Fall is in the air. Temperatures are dropping, the sun is setting earlier, and everything pumpkin spice is back on the shelf. All we are missing is a little color in the leaves overhead. For all you fall lovers out there, those days are nigh. The green in the leaves of summer comes from chlorophyll. Chlorophyll is the chemical in plants that turns sunlight and water into food through photosynthesis.

SPOKANE, Wash. — Wildfire season in the Northwest is expected to be active this year. The El Niño that brought warmer temperatures and drier conditions to the region this past winter will continue through most of the summer. There are signs of La Niña conditions forming, but the cool, wet pattern likely won’t return until later this fall. An abnormally warm dry winter in Washington and north Idaho led to a below-average snowpack in the Olympic Mountains, North Cascades, and the Northern Rockies.

SPOKANE, Wash. — The National Weather Service office in Spokane, Washington confirmed a landspout tornado west of Davenport at 4:50 p.m. Tuesday afternoon. A trained spotter recorded the rotating condensation funnel on the ground. There is no confirmed damage at this time. A landspout tornado is a non-supercell tornado. Different from a supercell tornado, landspouts typically form from the ground up to the cloud and tend to be a bit weaker than their supercell counterparts.

Incredible video of the dust and wind in Moscow, ID. From Matt Johnson, the metal is the roof of a building and those are power flashes in the distance near the end! https://t.co/j3fKIDuWJw
