Lisa Ann (Whiteside) Hensel, 67, of Park Rapids, MN, passed away Sunday, June 15, 2025, in her sleep at her residence. Lisa was diagnosed with dementia in the spring of 2021. She became permanent resident of The Cottages at Heritage Manor in Park Rapids, MN, in October, 2021. Lisa was born on July 3, 1957, in Peoria, IL, to Fred and Claralene (Iles) Whiteside. As a child, Lisa would travel to Park Rapids, MN, to visit her grandparents, William and Ada Mae Iles at their lakeside resort, Birch Harbor.

Deer Lane isn’t a street. It shows up on Google Maps almost as if it’s a town: “Deer Lane, MN.” But it’s actually a place just off County 4, about a mile south of Emmaville. It’s equally “just off” the north side of Pickerel Lake, at 26373 Inward Loop, steps away from a row of lake homes that, in some cases, don’t have running water. So, the fact that Deer Lane offers a laundromat, a public shower, a bathroom and a place to fill water jugs is part of its appeal.

Gary Dale Evers was born 20 March, 1945 to Percy and Anna (Quiring) Evers in Comfrey, MN. He grew up there on the family farm until August 1958 when the family moved to Browerville, MN. He graduated from Browerville High School in 1964 where he also participated in Varsity football and basketball. While attending Wadena Technical School for Auto Mechanics his roommate, Tom Vokes of Nevis, invited him home for deer season.

A 2023 Park Rapids Area High School graduate has been crowned Miss Minnesota 2025. Emma Vrieze, 20, of Osage, was chosen from among 23 candidates ages 18-28 on Friday, June 20. According to a Miss Minnesota competition news release, Vrieze received a $10,000 educational scholarship and will represent Minnesota at the 2026 Miss America competition.

Warm sunlight graced this year’s Dorset Boardwalk Art Festival on Saturday. "It was a fabulous turnout,” said Joan Grover with Dorset Books & Candy Shack and the Antique Stop. “We had lots of artisans and craftspeople. We had seven Minnesota authors at the bookstore, signing their books and discussing them with people who were out here. It was a beautiful day.” Among the stall holders was Ryan Van Guilder of Badoura Township, operating as Ryan’s Stains.

The 18-year-old lives on a 10-acre homestead in Runeberg Township, Becker County, with his parents, Luke and Melinda Davidson, four younger siblings. Park Rapids School Board approves revised and preliminary budgets

The Park Rapids School Board, on Monday, June 16, approved a revised budget for 2024-25 and a preliminary budget for 2025-26. The budget for the fiscal year ending June 30 was revised to show general fund revenues totaling $26,361,845 and expenses totaling $29,148,935, with revenues for all funds totaling $34,566,482 and expenditures of $53,524,417. Business Manager Kent Fritze projected an $18.5 million deficit for the year.
