JENKINS — The Jenkins City Council agreed not to apply a franchise fee to electrical utilities in the city. The decision, made during the Monday, April 14, regular meeting, came as the council was discussing the expired franchise agreement with Minnesota Power. The city had the option to renew while applying a franchising fee. Such a fee had been discussed in the past with the possibility of using the funds to expand gas lines in the city.

Eating healthy can be a chore, especially when it comes to reducing consumption of processed foods. But it is easy to forget that not all processing is equally detrimental to health. At some points in history, processing saved lives. I wrote some time ago about the development of teosinte — a tough, thin grass — into the corn we know today. Doing so, I briefly talked about the concept of nixtamalization.

This morning when I was getting photos at the area polling places someone said, "I think it's a big choice. I think it's an easy choice for me, personally." Did you feel that way? Not only about the presidential election, but also local offices? @PAL_EchoJournal

When I was out and about this morning, all the parking lots at the polling places were full of cars. It turns out it was even more crazy in Crosslake. Don't miss today's big event. It'll be one of those events you might regret not going to. @PAL_EchoJournal https://t.co/m0FeAVNU4U

You have to get out and vote today. No question, you don't want to be left out. I've never seen crowds like this at our local polling places. I don't mean in this picture specifically. You'd have to stop by a polling place to know what I mean. https://t.co/69MPywMkJk
