PINE RIVER — Festivals in Pine River may now be eligible to host licensed alcohol vendors thanks to a resolution passed at the Tuesday, June 10, regular city council meeting. The resolution came as a result of a request by organizers of the upcoming Duck Drop Bingo event in Pine River to establish a "social district." The suggested social district was intended to make it possible for local festivals to feature alcohol sales outside of drinking establishments.

I received the correction of a lifetime after my last column about treasure hunting. I compared my own metal detecting to that of detectorists in the New England states . I said, because of the relative lateness of Minnesota's settlement and eventual statehood, it would be very unlikely that I would have the chance to detect many targets from 1858 when the state became official, and if I was immensely lucky, I might find something from the fur trade time period just once in life.

PINE RIVER — Only a few weeks after the May 13 meeting where the Pine River City Council extended an offer to Debra Freund to serve as the city's clerk/treasurer, they had to call a May 28 emergency meeting to select her replacement. The council discussed two possible candidates: Nicole Kohler, who was the second choice among those interviewed most recently for the position, and an unnamed candidate who looked promising early on, but withdrew her name before interviews.

This morning when I was getting photos at the area polling places someone said, "I think it's a big choice. I think it's an easy choice for me, personally." Did you feel that way? Not only about the presidential election, but also local offices? @PAL_EchoJournal

When I was out and about this morning, all the parking lots at the polling places were full of cars. It turns out it was even more crazy in Crosslake. Don't miss today's big event. It'll be one of those events you might regret not going to. @PAL_EchoJournal https://t.co/m0FeAVNU4U

You have to get out and vote today. No question, you don't want to be left out. I've never seen crowds like this at our local polling places. I don't mean in this picture specifically. You'd have to stop by a polling place to know what I mean. https://t.co/69MPywMkJk
