MARQUETTE, Mich. (WLUC) - Marquette’s Binary Crows robotics team is back after competing in Houston, Texas against hundreds of robotics teams from around the world. The team’s robot, named Mantis was built to compete against other robots in head-to-head competition throwing balls into nets and putting PVC pipes on pegs. The Binary Crows were one of three U.P. teams to compete in Texas joining Gladstone and Calumet. The Crows finished in the top ten percent of teams globally.

MARQUETTE, Mich. (WLUC) - A new monument could be coming to Marquette this fall. On Wednesday night, the Marquette Public Art Commission held a special meeting to discuss a proposal for an educational monument highlighting the United States Constitution. The monument would go in at Harlow Park. The commission is still working out the details of the project and fine-tuning its public art policy.

GWINN, Mich. (WLUC) - A Marquette County quiz bowl team is back after competing on the national stage. The Gwinn Area Community Schools quiz bowl team finished 13th in the nation in the national competition in Chicago. That’s good for fourth in the Very Small School District category. With an overall record of 41-4, the team’s only losses came at the national level after winning the state championship. Individually, Thomas Jenkins finished fourth in the national Small School division.

MARQUETTE, Mich. (WLUC) - 47 of the top high school seniors from Marquette and Alger counties were recognized Monday night. The invitation-only Excellence in Education Program highlighted students’ work in the top five percent of their class. The students also get a $1,500 scholarship in recognition of their efforts. The program also highlights the students’ plans.

MARQUETTE, Mich. (WLUC) - With e-bikes soaring in popularity in recent years, bike shop owners and law enforcement are working to keep the public informed on what kinds of e-bikes are allowed where. Everett Bateman started renting e-bikes from the back of his van back in 2020. He started with just two. Now, he has a stock of more than 30 at his shop called ‘Bates Bikes’ in Marquette. Bateman says there are three classifications of e-bikes and the newest models are customizable.
