    ATLANTA — Governor Brian Kemp signed bills on Monday related to one of his biggest priorities of the legislative session - tort reform. The measure would essentially limit the damages that plaintiffs can seek in lawsuits, as well as limit the exposure of property owners in such lawsuits. "SB 68 and 69 simply bring transparency and fairness to a process that has been abused for too long, that has driven up costs for businesses and consumers alike," Kemp said before signing the bills.

    ATLANTA — A Delta flight headed to Atlanta caught fire at the Orlando airport on Monday, according to the airline. In total, there were 200 passengers on board, along with 10 flight attendants and two pilots. The airline tells 11Alive that flight crews were able to evacuate the passengers when "flames in the tailpipe of one of the aircraft's two engines were observed." It is unclear exactly what caused the fire in the first place.

    PAULDING COUNTY, Ga. — A deputy was shot and a suspect killed Thursday morning during a welfare check in Paulding County, according to the sheriff's office. The shooting happened just before 7 a.m. in the Brooke Valley neighborhood. A Paulding County Sheriff’s Office spokesperson said deputies were responding to a welfare check when a resident inside the home fired at them. One deputy was struck and taken to an area hospital in stable condition.
