The Wyoming County Planning Committee conditionally approved plans for the Henry Meadows Housing land development plan in Tunkhannock Township. The housing plan is proposed as low income senior living with 34 units in one building. The project applicant has been working with the committee for a number of months, with planning Director Matt Jones stating that the most recent plan submitted by the project addressed all of the committee and departments concerns and requirements before approval.

The Wyoming County Commissioners approved a memorandum of understanding between themselves and the Tunkhannock Borough Authority for the planned stormwater project. According to commissioners the project is already well underway, with engineering plans in the works for the project as the agreement is approved. The group had previously considered the item at the last commissioners meeting, but chose to table it until approval from the borough, who met later that week.

The Factoryville Borough Council celebrated a successful annual Christmas Market this year, hosting over 5,000 visitors to Christy Matthewson Park for the annual event. However, the council agreed that with the growth of the market and continued stress on the borough’s small staff to plan and maintain the growing event, that the group would like to see the event change hands.

Take a tour of Tunkhannock and vote on your favorite Christmas displays for the Endless Mountain Visitors Bureau’s inaugural Christmas Decorating Contest. Now through December 18 the public can vote for their favorite homes and businesses during the contest by visiting www.endlessmountains.org/vote to view a map of participating locations and cast your vote. Thirty-four locations are competing in this inaugural competition.

The Tunkhannock Business and Professionals Association has once again planned a full weekend of events for the annual Christmas in Our Home Town celebration. This year the organization opted to host the special event on a new weekend, Dec. 13 through 14, with a wide range of activities planned for the entire event. A full schedule of the weekend of events includes:December 13, from 5 to 9 p.m.5 p.m. Santa Parade down Tioga Street.
