Doctor Elise Witter felt safer working in a prison than she does in a Queensland hospital emergency department. The 28-year-old doctor-in-training can still remember the sound of a hole being punched through the Cairns Hospital emergency department wall as an agitated patient threatened to kill her and colleagues. The patient then tore the computer off the wall and hurled it at staff.

It has been more than two years since he received a last text from 18-year-old Emily. Queensland police are investigating after Year 10 boys were expelled from a Gold Coast school over "offensive" comments about female students. The ABC has been told two male students were expelled and a third chose to leave Emmanuel College after the Gold Coast school launched an investigation when the online content was reported to staff two weeks ago. The Carrara school emailed parents about the incident on Monday.

Queensland doctors say they plan to fight the Liberal National Party's vow to scrap free pill testing at next month's schoolies celebrations. Australian Medical Association Queensland (AMAQ) president Nick Yim said the group was seeking a meeting with the newly-elected state government to discuss the election promise.
