Channel 7 has cut its nightly Gold Coast 7News television bulletin, with the final bulletin to air this Thursday. In a statement, Seven said it was modernising the way it operated its nightly 6pm metropolitan news, with the Gold Coast office to run as a bureau. Channel 7 said a small number of roles will be affected with the majority of staff able to stay on the Gold Coast or offered positions in Brisbane.

Queensland doctors say they plan to fight the Liberal National Party's vow to scrap free pill testing at next month's schoolies celebrations. A trip to the Tweed Valley Hospital would be an enviable commute in an area where she's worked on and off for almost 20 years. But, like many colleagues, the grandmother says she is thousands of dollars better off working in Queensland. While she occasionally picks up shifts in her local area, she much prefers conditions on the Gold Coast, north of the border, after making the switch last year.

A cheap family holiday that keeps you fit and reconnects you with nature sounds too good to be true, but for Isaac Vitesnik and his family, "bikepacking" is a way of life. The 42-year-old from Northern NSW recently spent the school holidays cycling 400 kilometres with his partner Natasha Kasselis, 37, and their two children, aged 10 and 13, around the Gold Coast. The nine-day adventure cost the family of four less than $230 a day.
