CLEVELAND — June has been pretty status quo for how things are going this year: below-average temperatures and above-average rain. We haven't really had a good stretch of summer weather yet. That's likely to change later in the month, but Cleveland Hopkins International Airport is already running 1.9 degrees below average. The month kicked off with a tie for the record-low temperature, as Hopkins got all the way down to 40 degrees on the morning of the 1st.

CLEVELAND — Rain will return in abundance tonight and into at least the first half of Saturday in Northeast Ohio. Heavy rain and localized flooding will be possible, with some locations ending up with well over 1" of rain. There's a lot of moisture working our way from the gulf and that could mean high rainfall rates. Rain will become more abundant and steady overnight. Pockets of heavy rain will be the biggest concern. Soggy conditions will greet most locations Saturday morning.

CLEVELAND — Well, May was a little bit of a bummer. The April showers really carried over, and temperatures really struggled. Even Memorial Day — the "unofficial" start of summer — came with well below-average temperatures. The month as a whole came in 3.3 degrees below average. Other than one week with highs in the 70s and 80s, cooler conditions prevailed. The warmest day of the month was the 15th, which topped out at 84 degrees.

CLEVELAND — Memorial Day weekend is considered the "unofficial start of summer." Well… we are through Memorial Day, and the end of May didn't really break above average, so what are the actual calendar dates for the start of summer? Welcome to meteorological summer! June 1 was the start for that. It's really just to make record keeping easier and more consistent. Meteorological summer covers June, July, and August, which are typically the hottest months of the year.

CLEVELAND — April showers did not end with the month of April. They’ve continued into May. It’s been a pretty rainy spring overall. April was almost 1” above average for precipitation and May is running about ½” above average. 13 of the first 18 days recorded at least a trace of rain at Hopkins. The rainiest day was the 3rd with .62”. The highlight of the first part of May was 3 straight sunny days, which lined up nicely with Mother’s Day weekend. The first stretch of May was well below average.
