This year a pill testing service will be available at Schoolies on the Gold Coast, which starts on Saturday. Let's take a look at what it all means. Pill testing is a health response that aims to reduce the harms that come with taking illicit drugs. Basically, experts check what illicit substances are made up of and share that information with the people who plan to take the pills.

Linzi Wilson-Wilde has submitted a business case to the state government for a new building which she says could be constructed on the existing precinct at Coopers Plains on Brisbane's south side.

She calls it a big job with a big responsibility, but Beck O'Connor says she is ready for it. A long-time domestic violence advocate, Ms O'Connor is Queensland's new victims' commissioner. "My mission is pretty simple," she offers. "It's about promoting and protecting the rights of victims of crime and to ensure they're going to get the right supports at the right time. "I want them to feel not alone".

It's a figure we should be "ashamed of". Queensland's new police commissioner Steve Gollschewski expects the service will have responded to nearly 200,000 domestic and family violence incidents by the end of this financial year. That's upwards of 500 call outs a day. And that's only what's reported – police believe the real figure to be five times higher. Six weeks into his appointment, Commissioner Gollschewski tells Stateline family and domestic violence is his number one challenge.
