Allegany native Syd Sider has gone right from the graduation stage at State University of New York at Fredonia to the theater stage in New York City. Sider, who received a Bachelor’s of Fine Arts in Musical Theatre on May 16, was cast in “Heathers: The Musical.” The Off-Broadway production opens June 22 at New World Stages on West 50th St. in NYC. Sider learned of the opportunity through a social media posting.

OLEAN — In 1982, Tom and Jason Palumbo bought a sports catalog business called Sport About; they sold sports equipment and team uniforms from their apartment. Tom, who had a retail background dating back to 1976 — he was a manager at the AM&A’s Budget Store in the Olean Center Mall, then he managed Harold’s Army Navy store on North Union Street — worked at the new business full-time while Jason initially worked part-time.

In Tuesday’s Republican primary election for treasurer in Allegany County, deputy treasurer Jenna Kelley and former county legislator Adam B. Cyr face each other for the nomination. Kelley has served the past 12 years as deputy treasurer and the past eight years as West Almond town tax collector. Cyr is a business owner and served as a legislator representing the county’s District III after being elected in 2021.
