Olean school board members Keller, Warmley reflect at final meeting

OLEAN — A little over five years for one and just under one year for the other, Tuesday marked the final Olean Board of Education meeting for two of its members. Kelly Keller, who was first appointed to the board to fill a vacancy in early 2020 and was elected to her seat later that spring, presided over her final meeting, serving as the board president since last July. Meanwhile, Tatina Warmely, who served as the ex officio student member, also concluded her one year on the board Tuesday.

OLEAN — The Cattaraugus County Health Department announced Wednesday that aerial larvicide spraying has begun this week as part of ongoing mosquito control efforts. Spraying will be conducted only over wetland areas in municipalities that have opted to participate in the program, which include Allegany, Carrollton, Great Valley, Hinsdale, Olean, Portville and Salamanca, officials reported.

OLEAN — The names of two more Olean High School alumni now hang proudly on the district’s Wall of Honor. Dr. Abigail Bretzin, Class of 2009, and Dr. Katie Ralston, 2004, were honored Friday as the 2025 inductees during a ceremony in the Olean Board of Education conference room. Introduced by her longtime friend Kaitlyn Anastasia Caya, 2011, Bretzin was a top 10% ranking member of her graduating class, participating in several sports and student groups.

100 YearsJune 19, 1925: (SALAMANCA —) The old stone house on the Parker Farm, about three miles south of the city in Allegany State Park and located on the new scenic road from Salamanca into the park, is no more. The “stone house” was built about 18 years ago by the late Melvin O. Parker, who was a pattern maker in the Benedict factory here, and father of C.A. Parker of the Parker Electrical Company. It was a one-story structure with a basement, containing, as originally built, six rooms.
