WOBURN - The confusing status of two 2025 liquor licenses took another turn over the weekend with City Solicitor Mark Salvati calling for a special meeing on Thursday of this week in City Hall at 5 p.m.In turn, the three-member License Commission agreed to the special meeting. A public hearing was scheduled at the last License Commission meeting for Thursday, Feb. 20 on advice given by Salvati.

WOBURN - Long-time Woburn Redevelopment Chairman Donald P. Queenin has resigned from the board and his chairman’s position on the five-member WRA board. Queenin, who has a long history of serving on city boards, has been a constant figure at all WRA meetings but was conspicuously absent at the last WRA board meeting on Wednesday, October 23. Queenin is the lone appointee of the Massachusetts governor, as the other four members are appointees of the city’s mayor.

WOBURN - The Woburn Redevelopment Authority is back with a reinvigoration of energy to two popular areas in their 60-plus years of economic development: namely the downtown business area and the regional area with New Boston Street development priorities on their list. At a recent meeting, the WRA heard from new Economic Development Manager Casey Hagerty who has been on the job for a year now and new WRA Executive Director John Cashelll, a Woburn native with prior Woburn governmental experience.

WOBURN - Where’s it all going? The city of Woburn through its Engineer Department has conducted a first of its kind public hearing on having a bikeway/walkway from the downtown area at Library Park to north of Ferullo Field in North Woburn at the Woburn Public Library last night week with a main attempt to receive public opinion on the project. In all, some 50-plus residents showed for the event - a one hour-plus event with a lot of detail involved.

WINCHESTER - The Town of Winchester’s Public Retirement fund took a major hit last year due to the impact from COVID on their investments, which took away any chance of a gain at all. The 2022 report on investments for their year showed a -10.73 loss - a figure consistent with statewide retirement systems. In turn, the Commonwealth of Massachusetts Public Employee Retirement Administration Commission expressed hope of a major turnaround for the year 2023.
