Antisemitism on college campuses is intense. Incidents shot up 700% after the October 7 Hamas attack on Israel. Jewish families have reason to be nervous as another school year begins. Will their sons and daughters be safe? Last year, Jewish students were blocked from classes, told to “go back to Europe,” and even forced to navigate a Jewish “exclusion zone” at one university. Don’t expect much improvement this fall.

The Pope is rightfully being criticized for his decision to sanction the blessing of same-sex couples. But along with the seriousness of his error, there are two critical takeaways from the story. If we miss them, we’ll ignore what Evangelicals need to face in 2024. It’s well known that several mainline Protestant denominations have departed from biblical positions. I was there at many of their national meetings, participating in debates, discussions, and even General Council meetings.

Ask someone, “What does Christmas mean to you?” and you will receive many answers. To some, it’s a sacred celebration of their Savior’s birth; to others, it’s about giving and receiving gifts; to yet another, it’s simply a break from the typical work or school routine; to a few, it’s a time of depression and sadness. But ask anyone to give you three or four things consistently a part of their Christmas, and you will undoubtedly hear one word over and over: family.
