A bill to help military veterans suffering from sexual trauma has moved one step closer to passage. U.S. Rep. Nikki Budzinski and other members of Congress, both GOP and Democrat, are shepherding a bill that would improve training for Veterans Administration employees who handle sexual trauma claims from the military. It also would reduce red tape for survivors who seek disability benefits.

For the second time in six months, U.S. Sen. Josh Hawley, a Missouri Republican, has teamed with a New England Democrat to craft legislation aimed at lowering prescription drug prices. Hawley and U.S. Sen. Peter Welch of Vermont have introduced a bill that would lower drug costs by barring U.S. pharmaceutical companies from charging higher prices than the international average.

A Maplewood woman who gained media acclaim and political support for her COVID-19 relief work has pleaded guilty to a fraud-related felony. Shana Jones, 46, entered a guilty plea last week in St. Louis County Circuit Court to a charge of filing false documents — her fifth felony since 2004. But Jones, whose criminal history goes back 20 years and includes four previous felony convictions, will not serve any prison time. The official sentence handed down Friday was three years in prison.
