MOSIER, Ore. (KOIN) — As the wildfire season continues to grow, Oregon state and federal officials provided an update Friday morning on what residents can expect heading into summer. Those talks come after the state saw a handful of brush fires this week, with some even sparking evacuations. In Mosier, the earth was left scorched following the Cherry Hill fire on Wednesday. Oregon Department of Forestry said crews will continue to monitor until there is no more heat or smoke.

It’s the latest fallout after Portland City Council voted to shift $1.9 million dollars slated for the Portland Police Bureau in Mayor Keith Wilson’s budget to fund Parks and Recreation maintenance instead. The last-minute amendment passed by a slim 7-5 vote, but the move has not been without controversy.

On Friday, the Portland City Council and the Multnomah County Board held a joint meeting at Portland City Hall to address the local response to homelessness. While leaders acknowledged some gains have been made, there are still many issues that are difficult to address without more funding.
