BAYTOWNKingwood Park rallied for two runs in the seventh to beat Santa Fe 5-4 and sweep the best-of-three Region III-5A Division II area baseball playoff series Friday at Goose Creek Memorial High School. The Panthers (28-7), who won the opener 2-1 on Thursday, advance to play either Richmond Randle or Pflugerville Weiss in the region semifinals next week. Santa Fe (17-13) took a 4-3 lead into the seventh inning, thanks to homers by Johnathan Baccinelli and Jayce Richardson.

HUMBLEIn a game with more twists and turns than a carnival ride, Atascocita managed the last twist to move on to the second round. The Eagles scored three runs in the top of the 10th inning to break a 9-9 tie and held on beat Clear Springs 12-10 in Game 2 of the Region III-6A Division I bi-district baseball playoff series Thursday at Humble High School. “They came out played their butts off and gave us a chance the whole game,” said Clear Springs coach Chris Floyd, who graduates 13 seniors.

HUMBLEThe Atascocita baseball team came out swinging and running, and the Eagles’ aggressive style paid off in a 10-0 victory over the Clear Springs Chargers in the opener of the Region III-6A Division I bi-district playoff series Wednesday at Humble High School. Atascocita pitcher Ty Higginbotham tossed a no-hitter. The left-hander struck out four and walked two in a game that was stopped after five innings on the 10-run rule.

WINNIEThe drought is finally over for the Port Neches-Groves softball team. MyKayla Hranicky and Addy Brent each hit two-out RBI singles in a three-run second inning, and Hranicky tossed a four-hitter as PN-G beat Santa Fe 4-0 in Game 3 of the Region III-5A bi-district playoff series Saturday at East Chambers High School. Hranicky, who went 4-for-4 at the plate with an RBI, struck out nine and walked two to lead PN-G to the second round for the first time in 15 years.

WINNIESanta Fe was two outs away from sweeping the Region III-5A bi-district softball playoff series Friday night, but Port Neches-Groves had other ideas. PN-G scored three runs in the bottom of the seventh, sending the game into extra innings tied at 4. Lillie Mason then drew a bases-loaded walk in the eighth inning, lifting PN-G to a 5-4 victory in Game 2 of the best-of-three series. The win evened the series at 1. Santa Fe won the opener 12-2 in six innings earlier in the day Friday.
