    Trenton officials Wednesday celebrate winning the national Robert Wood Johnson Foundation (RWJF) Culture of Health Prize. A ceremony is planned from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. as the city accepts a $250,000 award inside City Hall’s Atrium. The RWJF Culture of Health Prize is awarded annually to a select number of communities across the country, recognizing collaborative efforts that are inspiring real, systemic change in health outcomes and social well-being.

    Trenton police are searching for a man accused of attempted homicide and closed down a city school before class began this morningPolice said they were looking for Julius A Troupe, 24, of Trenton, around 6 a.m. in the area of Camden and Hanover streets. Troupe is wanted for Criminal Attempt Homicide and is considered to be armed and dangerous. Police believe he has since fled the city and lifted the lockdown, but are asking if anyone who sees him to call 911.

    Brian Hughes, who spent 20 years in the center of Mercer County politics as County Executive, passed away today at the age of 68. Hughes was the executive from 2004 until his retirement in 2024. Brian Hughes is the son of former New Jersey Governor Richard Hughes, who served from 1962 to 1970. His tenure ended after the last election when he decided to retire and end his re-election campaign in 2023 and endorsed current officeholder Dan Benson.

    Trenton is on the hunt for another Director of Housing and Economic Development (HED). Mayor W. Reed Gusciora confirmed that Arch Liston will be leaving the position and the city is currently looking for candidates to replace him. Liston’s last day is Friday of this week and Gusciora plans to announce an acting director soon, pending approval from the state Department of Community Affairs. Liston was previously the mayor’s chief of staff from April of 2021 to July of 2023.

No less than six presentations were made during the racing program, enabled by the generosity of the USHDC members donating 100% of their earnings from their designated events.
