CLARKSBURG, W.Va (WDTV) - A local charity got more than they bargained for on the First at 4 with Holly Baratta Thursday. The Mustard Seed is a charity that’s been operating for more than 50 years in Clarksburg. Currently, around 60 volunteers assist in its day-to-day operations. The community has come to rely on the mission of the mustard seed, that by nourishing faith it will continue to grow. Dolores Yoke is the board president of the charity.

The meeting drew both criticism and support for a potential ban on homeless encampments. The president of the non-profit Main Street Morgantown, Mark Downs says current conditions downtown are enabling dangerous behavior.

FAIRMONT, W.Va (WDTV) - Dozens of people attended a rally outside of the Marion County Courthouse Monday in solidarity for 49-year-old Charles ‘Duddy’ Echols III. Echols was shot and killed on July 30th last year; family and friends are still waiting for answers. An alleged incident between Echols, his supposed girlfriend, and another man she had a relationship with, resulted in Echols’ death with the latter party claiming self-defense.

BRIDGEPORT, W.Va (WDTV) - State property assessment returns are due in the next few months. Local assessor’s offices are sending notices reminding people to get their property assessed. The due date for businesses is September 1st and October 1st for individuals. While these forms can be filled out online, in Harrison County several in-person satellite camps will be set up between July 15th throughout August. Some locations include Stonewood, The Meadowbrook Mall, Rosebud Plaza, and Benedum Plaza.

BUCKHANNON, W.Va (WDTV) - A youth filmmakers camp begins in Buckhannon at the end of next month. The 9th Annual Young Filmmakers Camp is happening in Buckhannon July 29th through August 2nd. The registration is open for ages 12 and up. It’s hosted by ART20601 a local non-profit focused on promoting creativity in Buckhannon. Students will work as a team learning how to work a camera, write a script, edit video, and more. One of the instructors Jon Benjamin says this camp is a rewarding experience.

BRIDGEPORT, W.Va (WDTV) - The Harrison County Commission approved a special funding request and a new facility to help address issues with pet overpopulation. The Humane Society of Harrison County, a nonprofit organization was approved for a special funding request by the county commission. The organization asked for $30,000 for its low-cost spay and neuter vouchers, but instead got $40,000 from the commission’s community improvement fund.

BRIDGEPORT, W.Va (WDTV) - For anglers or people looking to get into fishing you don’t need a license to cast a line this weekend. June 8th and 9th is West Virginia’s annual free fishing weekend. People are encouraged to grab a poll and cast away in public waters all over the state. A basic 5-day fishing license costs 8 dollars for residents and a day pass would be 3 dollars for non-residents.
