PITTSBURGH - A Christian physical therapist fired over refusing the COVID-19 vaccine won't be able to sue her former employer in court, a Philadelphia federal judge has held. Judge Nora Barry Fischer on May 7 ruled against Jamie Petrel, whose 2024 lawsuit said Saber Healthcare Group violated her "strongly held religious beliefs" when it fired her in January 2022. She had applied for a religious exemption from Saber's vaccine mandate but was rejected in 2021.

THE UNTIMELY DEATH of Garda Kevin Flatley reminds us that every single road crash fatality is a deep tragedy for the victims and their families. This is an unspeakable tragedy for Kevin’s wife Una and their children. One’s thoughts and prayers go out to them in the most heartfelt and thoughtful way. PHILADELPHIA - A massive verdict against the makers of the weedkiller Roundup wasn't excessive, a Pennsylvania appeals court has ruled. On May 8, a three-judge panel of the Superior Court affirmed a $177.3 million award from the Philadelphia County Court of Common Pleas. The 2023 verdict was in the middle of a trio of wins for plaintiffs, with the others valued at $3.5 million and $2.2 billion (it was later reduced to $404 million).

PHILADELPHIA - A federal court has found no racial animus in Upper Merion's decision to take for itself land being sold to a Black business owner under a gentlemen's agreement. Judge Mark Kearney on May 1 ruled against Eddie Hendrick in his federal lawsuit over the taking of a property adjacent to Walker Park that Upper Merion had long been interested in turning into a recreational area for residents. But its owner, Louis Damiani, didn't want to sell it to the township.
