Little Toots Park in downtown Steamboat Springs was closed late Monday morning as Colorado Parks and Wildlife officials and animal control officers from the city cordoned off a section of the Core Trail where a male moose was bedded down. David Rehak Suma, Colorado Parks and Wildlife district wildlife manager, said a yearling moose was seen in Little Toots Park earlier that morning, and had bedded down just off the Yampa River Core Trail.

A passion for adventure drove Steamboat Springs entrepreneur Edward Watson to help create Fat Eddy’s, a company that produced climbing and river gear, and Spiffy Dog — a company that produced dog collars and leashes and made an impression in Steamboat Springs. “I don’t know if it’s a passion, but I like to make quality, functional gear,” said Watson, who plans to release his latest brainchild, ROAM brand gear, at this weekend’s Yampa River Festival. ROAM stands for River, Ocean and Mountains.

The livestock standing in the hay meadows surrounding the Rocking C Bar Ranch northwest of Steamboat Springs on Thursday were not bothered by the raucous sound of children’s voices and laughter that filled the normally still air. On this day, 70 third-graders toured the ranch owned by the Daughenbaugh and Allen families toured the ranch northwest of Steamboat Springs on Routt County Road 44 as part of the Routt County Cattlewomen’s Ranch Days.

This week 153 dancers from Elevation Dance Studio will “shine” as they step onto the Steamboat Springs High School Auditorium stage for the studio’s annual spring recitals. This year’s performance, titled “Shine,” will be split into two shows. The younger performers will take the stage at 6 p.m. Thursday and 1 p.m. Saturday. A second show will be performed at 6 p.m. Friday and 6 p.m. Saturday. The shows will include ballet, tap, jazz, contemporary, lyrical, hip hop, jazz fun and pointe.

Charles Bauer’s journey to Steamboat Springs has included careers as a minister in small town churches, jobs in a mortuary and several years working in information technology with a national clothing retailer. “We didn’t really know much about Steamboat Springs, but God opened up the doors for us,” said Bauer. Bauer was hired in February as the new pastor of Steamboat Bible Church, which is affiliated with the Evangelical Free Church of America. He replaces David Tyree, who recently retired.
