Morning commuters on the Long Island Rail Road’s Babylon Branch can expect delays and train cancellations after a fatal train strike in Amityville Thursday. The LIRR said the incident involved a westbound train headed to Grand Central Madison and said the train was "partially" at the station when the person was struck at 5:31 a.m.Citing the ongoing investigation by Metropolitan Transportation Authority Police, additional details of the incident were not immediately available.

Accessibility upgrades at 34th Street-Penn Station will benefit subway riders using the A, C and E lines, the MTA said on Wednesday. The Metropolitan Transportation Authority announced the opening of two new elevators to replace obsolete equipment at the Manhattan station. The MTA said the work included a full replacement of the elevator cabs, as well as modifications that should make the ride smoother and more reliable for riders with accessibility needs.

Stormy preholiday weather figures to impact travel headed into Memorial Day weekend as a potential Nor'easter expected in New England should miss Long Island, forecasters said. And, forecasters now say much of that weather should clear for Saturday, Sunday and Monday — a major plus for holiday celebrations across Long Island. "We're going to get rain and gusty winds," John Murray, a meteorologist at the National Weather Service office in Upton, said.
