Former Scottish Government minister Aileen Campbell has joined the St Johnstone board of directors. A familiar face at McDiarmid Park, the lifelong Saints fan was an MSP at Holyrood for 14 years prior to stepping down in 2021. Ministerial roles included remits covering sport, children and young people, communities and local government, all while serving as an SNP MSP for Clydeside.

Glencarse-based fashion company Little Lies enjoyed a welcome spell in the spotlight earlier this year when the chart-topping icon, whose record-breaking global Eras Tour drew to a conclusion in Canada earlier this week, was spotted wearing one of its expertly-crafted dresses in New York earlier this year.

Pupils and staff at Perth Academy were evacuated following a fire on Wednesday afternoon (December 4). Two Scottish Fire and Rescue Service (SFRS) appliances were dispatched to the Murray Place school after the alarm was raised shortly after 2pm. Perth and Kinross Council has said the fire broke out in a disused storage area and nobody was hurt. The local authority has also said that the building was ventilated before activities resumed as normal later in the afternoon.

Blairgowrie-based youth charity secures vital funding boost

A Blairgowrie-based charity which works tirelessly to support the area’s young people has secured a share of £25,000-worth of funding. The Strathmore Centre for Youth Development (SCYD) was recently presented with £5000 from Scotmid through the supermarket’s Community Connect initiative. SCYD, which supports people aged 12 to 25, was awarded the money following a vote by Scotmid members. Lloyd Girling is chair of the charity based at Wellmeadow House in Blairgowrie.

Blairgowrie’s Ailidh Richardson has thanked supporters after raising more than £1500 for charity after undertaking a gruelling test of endurance. The 27 year-old recently completed the Tiree Ultramarathon in aid of Alzheimer’s Scotland. A final year dental student at the University of Dundee, Ailidh had never contested a marathon before so opting to run 35 miles around the rugged Tiree coast proved to be a tough test.

Hundreds of people enjoyed the 12th edition of the popular Bookmark festival at Blairgowrie Community Campus over the weekend. In total, 11 events took place over Saturday and Sunday in a line-up that featured award-winning writers, household names and exciting new talent. Among those appearing at the festival this year were Sally Magnusson, Karen Campbell, Mollie Hughes, Laura Shepherd-Robinson, James Jauncey, Billy Kay, SG MacLean and Chris Whitaker and Chris Brookmyre.
