    Hofstra University's Zucker School of Medicine has received a $3 million gift from a local global technology firm to establish an endowed deanship to support medical student scholarships. The gift from the Lake Success-based Broadridge Financial Solutions was announced Monday by the firm along with Northwell Health and Hofstra University. This latest gift to the medical school will establish scholarships for incoming medical students, beginning with the new class entering in 2025.

    One of the two Stony Brook University residence halls knocked out of service during a late August storm will reopen and welcome students Oct. 11, according to an email sent to campus residents Monday. The move means that some students who had been forced to live a triple may soon be able to have more space.

    Stony Brook University welcomed the largest incoming class of first-year undergraduates in the school’s history with more than 4,000 students having enrolled, university officials announced Monday. That enrollment figure represents a 13% increase from last year when 4,042 students enrolled for this fall. Stony Brook received the most undergraduate applications of any State University of New York school, officials there said in a release. Transfer students also increased by 4%.

    Stony Brook University and the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy continued to rank highly in the revamped 2025 U.S. News & World Report Best College rankings released early Tuesday while Farmingdale State College jumped into the Top 10 list of regional schools. Stony Brook University tied its ranking in the list of national schools from last year at 58 — the highest rank that the university had ever achieved.
