INDIANAPOLIS — Two Indiana State Police troopers with the Bremen Post were among those honored Tuesday during an awards and recognition ceremony in Indianapolis for their dedication, service, bravery and devotion to the department and the citizens of Indiana. Trooper Matthew Drudge was recognized as the 2024 Trooper of the District for the Bremen Post. This award is given annually to a trooper in each district that personifies integrity, professionalism, and a well-rounded work ethic.

No injuries or deaths were reported in the wake of the twister, which touched down about 12:20 a.m. Tuesday near the Hawthorne Early Learning Center and moved southeast toward South Main Street between Lusher and Hively avenues.

ELKHART — The remnants of what was formerly Hurricane Beryl pushed through the area overnight, dumping more than 6 inches of rain in some places and flooding roadways across Elkhart County. The National Weather Service said between 3 and 5.5 inches of rain had fallen in 24 hours and issued a weather advisory warning of minor flooding in low-lying and poor drainage areas, water over roadways, and elevated water levels in rivers and streams.

City launches $12 million Oakland utility project

ELKHART — Work on the largest utility project in the city’s history kicked off Thursday with a groundbreaking ceremony at Illinois and Waurika streets. Oakland Phase A is the first of four phases and is a utility-focused project that also includes street and sidewalk replacement. Taken together, the various phases of the project represent the largest utility project ever undertaken by the city, officials said.
