MORAVIAN orienteer Finlay McLuckie was one of the stars of the opening round of the Scottish Orienteering League around Tarbert in Kintyre. The weekend consisted of three events making five races over the two days. Saturday started off with a middle-distance race in Torinturk, a fantastical area with virtually no paths and very complex contour and rock detail.

TICKETS are set to go on sale for this summer's piping in Grant Park – which has been rebranded as MacPiping Hot Forres. Organiser Andy Macdonald, who brought MacMoray Festivals to Elgin's Cooper Park, was last month successful with a bid to return a piping event to Forres. The British Pipe Band Championships – to be branded as MacPiping Hot Forres – will take place at Grant Park on Saturday, June 8.

ELGIN City's new chairman is hoping to stabilise the club off the park before working with an "ambitious" management team to move things forward. Local businessman Alan Murray – who runs George Innes Ltd and has more than 35 years experience in the construction industry – was confirmed in the role on Tuesday. Mr Murray was formerly chairman of Dufftown FC and also played junior football for the club, as well as two short spells with New Elgin.
