Commissioner Scales tells WBRC her campaign is focused on public safety and protecting the city’s assets. Speaking in front of an abandoned house on the city’s East side, Scales said she would focus on cutting down crime and beefing up staffing for the Birmingham Police Department.

CLAY COUNTY, Ala. (WBRC) - A new audit released Friday, May 23, raises serious concerns about the Clay County Health Authority’s financial health. The audit from independent firm Draffin Tucker says the authority that runs Clay County’s only hospital lost almost $4 million in the last two years, and auditors say the authority’s financial position “creates substantial doubt about the authority’s ability to continue as a going concern”.

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WBRC) - Two Alabama metro areas at opposite ends of our state topped the list of fastest-growing cities in Alabama in 2024, according to new U.S. Census Data released Thursday. Foley, Alabama grew by 12% from July of 2023 to July 2024, making it the 16th-fastest growing metro area in the U.S.Athens, Alabama grew by 5.3%, making it the second-fastest growing city in the state (of cities with a population above 15,000).
