3 1/1 Head to the northern end of the Yorkshire Coast and enjoy an impressive section between Saltburn and Skinningrove. Unusually for a coastal hike, there is an impressive detour up Warsett Hill to complete a circular. Start the walk at Saltburn although it is perfectly possible to start at Skinningrove. Saltburn is a Victorian spa town which has retained many of its old features and still gives a feel of a bygone age.

2 1/1 Weekend country walk:  in Yarnbury and Grassington  THE heritage of the Yorkshire Dales is showcased perfectly on this walk over the moors from Yarnbury. The geography is reflected by the limestone scars and caves whilst the history is shown with the excellent tour of the lead mines. There is some parking at the road end at the farmstead of Yarnbury, north of Grassington. From here follow the lane north for half a mile as it drops down towards a stream.

3 1/1 The River Nidd skirts Harrogate but passes close to the centre of Knaresborough, providing a lovely woodland stroll. Included in the walk is the dramatic Nidd Gorge but at this time of the year you will be more distracted by the carpet of wild flowers and newly blossoming trees. Start at the parking at Conyngham Hall, just beside the banks of the River Nidd before it enters Knaresborough.

Upper Dentdale in the Yorkshire Dales has some fantastic walking. The walk past Artengill Viaduct, up Great Knoutberry Hill (one of the least visited Dales 30 mountains) and back via Dent Station is the best way of exploring it.    Please be aware that due to a landslide the road into Dentdale from the Hawes/Ribblehead road is closed, so access to this walk is either via Dent or the road from Garsdale. Alternatively alter the walk and do the circuit from Dent Station and take the train.

Littondale, often regarded as the finest dale in the Yorkshire Dales, offers a quintessential springtime experience (Image: Jonathan Smith) Littondale epitomises much which is good about the Yorkshire Dales, particularly in spring. It is a perfect U-shaped valley, with rocky outcrops, exquisite villages, and at this time fields of wildflowers (certainly in May). This is a short walk showcasing all this. Park in Arncliffe.
