KENILWORTH – Wellington North staff are looking into how much decommissioning the Lion Roy Grant pool and rehabilitating the property will cost the township. Direction given to staff follows a March 14 recommendation from a recreation, parks and leisure committee meeting to move ahead with decommissioning and rehabilitating the entire property, including the pool itself and a building.

WINNIPEG — Cries in support of Bangladesh’s minority Hindu population blared across the International Mother Language Plaza in Kirkbridge Park Saturday. “Justice for Hindus and Bangladeshi minorities,” a man with a megaphone yelled as the gathering of roughly 100 people echoed the statement in unison. Some of the many signs held by attendees depicted blood-stained handprints, images of burning buildings, and carried statements calling for justice and protection for Bangladeshi minorities.

A monument to honour first responders and the victims of a deadly bus crash near Carberry last summer is set to be unveiled Sunday. Premier Wab Kinew is expected to speak at the memorial’s unveiling at Day Lily Park in Carberry. First responders, and municipal officials are expected to be in attendance at the 3 p.m. unveiling.

Manitoba’s justice minister has hinted a clampdown on machetes is in the works just as a First Nation chief has renewed the call to regulate sales of the weapon following recent attacks. Nisichawayasihk Cree Nation Chief Angela Levasseur said the 3,500 people in the Nelson House-based community live in fear of being harmed by machete-wielding youths. There have been at least two recent machete attacks.
