SALINAS, Calif. (KION-TV) -- A man suffering from a single gunshot wound was found dead in a homeless encampment Saturday morning. Police said they responded to reports of a man down on East Laurel Drive, near Carr Lake. Based on the scene, officers believe the 35-year-old victim was shot hours before someone saw the injured man and called 911. The victim's identity is being withheld as family members have yet to be notified. There is currently no suspect information or motive.

SALINAS, Calif. (KION-TV) -- UPDATE ON AUG. 22, 2023 AT 12:23 PM- The Monterey County Sheriff's Office identified the 35- year-old man that was found dead in a homeless encampment on Saturday morning. Antonio Leal Pedroza of Salinas was found dead from a gunshot wound on East Laurel Drive near Carr Lake on Aug. 19 around 8:10 a.m. Salinas Police believe that based on the scene, it is believed that Pedroza was shot hours before a witness saw him and called 911.

SALINAS, Calif. (KION-TV) -- Salinas Police say they're looking for a suspect wanted in an attempted murder hit-and-run, that occurred Saturday afternoon. Police said a possible male driver had intentionally run over a man, at Vallejo Street and Tampico Avenue at around 1 p.m. The victim suffered serious injuries and was taken to a local hospital. Officers taped the area up to investigate. Police didn't provide suspect or vehicle descriptions.
