Lawyers for former FirstEnergy CEO Chuck Jones, who is charged in the House Bill 6 bribery scheme, recently asked to clarify whether prosecutors will argue that they bribed additional public officials.

TOLEDO, Ohio (WTVG) - Ohio lawmakers could soon move to eliminate 14 members of the State Board of Education, including all of its elected representatives, two years after stripping the board of most of its powers. The budget passed by House Republicans on April 9 includes provisions that would reduce the State Board of Education to five members who are appointed by the governor. It eliminates three of the governor’s appointees and all 11 members who are elected from districts across Ohio.

FOSTORIA, Ohio (WTVG) - Ohio imports millions of tons of trash each year. It’s a trend that has increased in the last decade. The Ohio EPA says the state imported 7.4 million tons of waste in 2022, more than double the amount imported in 2014. The state exported 1.2 million tons of trash in 2022. “We are becoming the trash receptacle for the rest of the nation because of simple economics,” said State Sen. Bill Reineke (R-Tiffin).

TOLEDO, Ohio (WTVG) - Ohio House Republicans agreed to issue $600 million in bonds to help the Cleveland Browns pay for a new stadium this week in their budget bill. Now, the Cincinnati Bengals are lobbying the legislature to chip in $350 million to help renovate Paycor Stadium. The Senate will now decide if the Browns bond package should stay in the budget bill passed by the House. It could also decide whether state dollars will help support the Bengals.
