LINCOLN — The 109th Nebraska Legislature ended its 2025 session Monday, gaveling out with no hostile amendments or threatened filibusters, no late vetoes from the governor and no debates over who was actually subverting the will of the people. Sine die on day 89 of the session instead drew bursts of applause and a lot of handshakes among lawmakers eager for a summer break of sorts until the second half of the two-part session starts in January.

LINCOLN — The Legislature confirmed Friday the governor's two appointees to the Nebraska Medical Cannabis Commission. Lorelle Mueting, an addiction prevention specialist, and Monica Oldenburg, an anesthesiologist, will join three members of the Liquor Control Commission to enact rules for the manufacture, regulation and sale of medical cannabis. The vote for Oldenburg was 34-11, and the vote for Mueting was 27-16. A few of the 49 lawmakers had left for the day by the afternoon vote.
