LINCOLN — A Nebraska state senator may have to seek an alternate route for his bill to regulate medical marijuana after a panel of senators did not advance the legislation or an amendment limiting its scope Thursday. Legislative Bill 677 from Ben Hansen of Blair has the backing of the Nebraskans who worked for more than a decade to legalize medical marijuana and got the initiative on last year's ballot.

LINCOLN — A bill to increase the penalty for assaulting a pharmacist or any employee in a hospital or health clinic in Nebraska advanced from its first round of voting in the Legislature Wednesday after an eight-hour filibuster that stretched over two days. Senators disagreed over the preventative effects of Legislative Bill 322. Supporters said it would help to keep health care workers safe and feel more secure.
