    GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — A West Michigan family is spreading the word about their daughter's rare diagnosis in the hopes of funding research about Pyruvate Dehydrogenase Complex Deficiency (PDCD). Andrew and Holly Cieslinski learned their daughter Lily has PDCD, a neurodegenerative condition, in 2024. They describe it as the body's inability to process carbs into energy. As a result, Lily's hearing, eyesight, diet and muscle tone are all impacted. There is currently no cure.

    COVERT, Mich. — The Palisades Nuclear Plant is more than $46.7 million closer to reopening in southwest Michigan after it stopped operating in 2022. Another in-person meeting was held Wednesday night by the Palisades Restart Panel in Benton Harbor. It was the fourth in-person meeting and 21st public meeting since this restart process started more than a year ago. Palisades ceased operations in May 2022 by its New Orleans-based owner, Entergy Corp., and was later sold to Holtec in June 2022.

A representative for the United States Lifesaving Association presented a personalized plan of what adding lifeguards would look like in South Haven. This included logistics like number of people, cost, equipment and benefit. The city of South Haven hasn't had lifeguards at its beaches since the 90s.

    MUSKEGON COUNTY, Mich. — While receiving a mysterious envelope in the mail filled with white powder may sound like something out of a movie, it's a very real threat that first responders in Muskegon County prepare for each month. A potential white powder scenario was the focus of training for the Muskegon County Hazardous Material Response Team this week. The team is mostly volunteer and, while not often needed, has specialized training to respond to all sorts of situations.
