A man accused of kidnapping and sexually assaulting a woman at an apartment in Miami and breaking into other people's homes was arrested on Sunday, police said. Jorge Armando Ortega, 46, is facing several charges, including sexual battery, kidnapping, burglary and possession of a controlled substance. According to police, on Saturday, the victim, a 62-year-old woman, was running errands and returned to her home and saw Ortega when she went into her son's room and opened the closet.

The Florida House on Tuesday passed a bill that would remove fluoride from the state's drinking water. In an 88 to 27 vote, the bill will now head to Gov. Ron DeSantis' desk, where it will be signed into law. The Florida Senate passed the bill o n April 16. In Miami-Dade County, commissioners in early April voted to ban fluoride in drinking water but Miami-Dade Mayor Daniella Levine Cava signaled that she will veto the plan.

New details were released on Monday after several people on board a boat, including juveniles, were thrown into the water following a crash in North Miami Beach. According to the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission, on Saturday, officers received reports of a boating accident that happened near Maule Lake. FWC said that preliminary information indicated that one operator and seven passengers on board the boat were traveling near Maule Lake when it struck another boat that was docked.

A man was arrested on Sunday after being accused of killing a woman in The Hammocks, deputies said. Joy Chandra Nath, 27, is facing multiple charges, including second-degree murder and child abuse. According to the Miami-Dade Sheriff's Office, on Saturday, a woman in the area was able to flag down a deputy and told them that their 3-year-old granddaughter was found by a neighbor walking alone in the parking lot at a residential complex.

A Miami Police officer was arrested in Broward County on Sunday after being accused of beating his wife, police said. Christian Vladimir Sanchez, 29, was charged with domestic battery and robbery without a firearm. During his court appearance on Wednesday, a judge set Sanchez's bond at $50,000. According to Sunrise Police, officers arrived at a home in Sunrise, where they met Sanchez's wife who appeared to have a bloody lip and blood smeared on her teeth.
