    TEXARKANA, TEXAS - A standoff with an armed and potentially dangerous man ended without incident on Friday in Texarkana, Texas. Police say that the family called 911 around 3:30 p.m. on Friday from a home in the 5600 block of Forest Grove. Family members said they tried to get a weapon away from the man, identified as John Kinder, 50, and it discharged. No one was injured. When officers arrived, Kinder was attempting to drive out of the neighborhood.

    HUGHES SPRINGS, Texas - A stretch of Texas highway is getting closer to being renamed after a fallen east Texas soldier. The Sgt. Samuel T. Castle Memorial Highway sign would stand in Morris County as a lasting tribute to the local hero. Castle was killed in action in Iraq in 2005 while on deployment for Operation Iraqi Freedom. He was 26 years old. Efforts are now underway to rename a portion of Texas Highway 11 and 49 in Morris County, Texas to the Army Staff Sgt. Samuel T. Castle Memorial Highway.

    TEXARKANA, Texas - As part of National Volunteer Month, the CHRISTUS Health System is seeking more volunteers. There are currently 56 volunteers at the CHRISTUS Saint Michael’s in Texarkana, 26 at the Atlanta hospital and 25 at the Pine Street location. Volunteers are needed as information desk attendants, greeters, escorts, wayfinding guides, gift shop assistants and waiting room support.

LifeNet EMS employs 24 dispatchers who ensure residents get the help they need in a seven-county service area. “It's the most amazing job I've ever had. It's chaos, but it's something new every day. You never have the same day twice. You get to work with some really amazing people,” said Lauren Hill, LifeNet Regional Communications Manager.
