    CHICOPEE, Mass. (WWLP) – The 22News I-Team report examining cameras inside Springfield Public Schools has earned a regional Edward R. Murrow Award. The I-Team examined the agreement that gave the Police Department’s Crime Analysis Unit live access to school cameras in the event of an emergency. When the time came to renew the agreement between the police and the school, at least one School Committee member expressed privacy concerns.

    SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – The Latino Economic Development Corporation is helping to empower a number of women-owned businesses in western Massachusetts. Members gathered in Springfield on Thursday to award more than $1,500 in grant funding. The announcement was made at the new home of ‘Visual Sound Productions’ on Union Street. The production company is one of today’s grant recipients. Owner Nicole Nell told 22News this grant made it possible for her to expand her business and hire more employees.

    SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – The state’s highest court has reinstated a first-degree murder conviction in a 2018 Springfield shooting. Luis Gomez was sentenced to life in prison for the deadly shooting of Jesus Flores at a nightclub on Waltham Avenue in Springfield. After he was convicted, the trial judge reduced the verdict to second-degree murder based on a lack of evidence of premeditation.
