(KSNB) - Central Nebraska is getting a taste of tradition this weekend as the South Central Nebraska Czechs host their 49th annual Czech Festival, celebrating the region’s rich cultural heritage with food, music and community spirit. The event kicks off Saturday at 9:30 a.m. at the Hastings Eagles Club, located at 107 North Denver Ave.

HASTINGS, Neb. (KSNB) - When the Hastings Sodbusters hit the field for the 2025 season, there was a new face calling the shots in the dugout — though the face was already a familiar one. Josh Prinner, a former shortstop for the Sodbusters in 2023 and 2024, returned to the team this summer to serve as its new head coach. At just 23 years old, Prinner might be the youngest in the league wearing a manager’s hat, but he’s already turning heads for all the right reasons.

HASTINGS, Neb. (KSNB) - The Nebraska LEAD Program is accepting applications for its 44th class, set to begin this fall. Program Director Kurtis Harms said they’re looking for 30 individuals involved in agriculture who want to develop their leadership skills. While the two-year program is geared toward those between ages 25 and 55, applicants outside that range are also encouraged to apply.

GRAND ISLAND, Neb. (KSNB) - Changes are coming to the Northwest Viking girls soccer coaching staff. Molly Nicol will replace Jess Herrmann as head coach. According to a social media post from the school, Nicol is a kindergarten teacher at Cedar Hollow and was a standout soccer player at the University of Nebraska at Kearney. The school said Herrmann will remain on staff as a teacher and basketball coach for the Vikings.

KEARNEY, Neb. (KSNB) - During the University of Nebraska at Kearney’s graduation ceremony Friday morning, Dr. Brianna Hoffman, the mother of the late Jack Hoffman, delivered the keynote address. Her message: “If God opens a door of opportunity, run through it.” She spoke about her family’s journey through cancer and the formation of the Team Jack Foundation. Dr. Hoffman read from a speech Jack gave about a year ago, when he was the commencement speaker at his high school graduation.
