WENATCHEE — Construction for Phase 1 of the Confluence Parkway Project kicked off Thursday with a groundbreaking ceremony. Wenatchee Mayor Mike Poirier, U.S. Rep. Kim Schrier (D-8th), U.S. Sen. Maria Cantwell (D-Washington) and Chelan County Commissioner Brad Hawkins were all in attendance and spoke of their gratitude for the official commencement of Phase 1, and all of the many people who worked behind-the-scenes to help bring the project to fruition.

QUINCY — Microsoft has announced a collaboration with three organizations that is expected to transform 50,000 pounds of retired drives and hardware into rare earth elements at various Circular Center locations, including in Quincy. Microsoft is shifting its recycling efforts into collaboration with hard drive manufacturer Western Digital, Pedalpoint Recycling and Critical Materials Recycling.

WENATCHEE — Traffic delays should be expected this Wednesday on Malaga-Alcoa Highway as Chelan County Public Works crews remove invasive trees. Invasive trees are non-native plants that can be harmful to the ecosystem around them, according to the United States Department of Agriculture. The team will be removing trees specifically in the right-of-way between mileposts 0.76 and 0.85. The work zone will be one lane and flaggers will be present to help control the flow of traffic.

WENATCHEE — Write on the River, a local nonprofit literary organization, has announced the winners of the 17th annual Writers Competition. Local writers submitted their nonfiction and fiction works, for the cost of $20 per submission, and then a panel of judges selected six winners. Three winners were selected for both the fiction and nonfiction categories. The six winners will share $1,200 in cash awards, according to a press release.
