University College Cork (UCC) has received its highest leading education ranking in a decade, rising 27 places to 246th in the world. The QS World University Rankings are an independent assessment which examines universities against indicators relating to academic reputation, employer reputation, internationalisation, teaching, research, sustainability, as well as the employment outcomes of graduates. The rise comes on the back of a 19-place improvement last year.

Margaret Adams moved to Ireland from the UK two decades ago and lived “very happily” in her “beautiful” little home with her rescue donkeys, dogs and ducks. Unfortunately, a fire broke out at the property on the morning of March 20 last. Margaret was fortunate to escape with her life as the blaze took hold so quickly. Her friend, Bernie Fleming, says that the “quick actions” of a neighbour led to the saving of dogs Misty and Freddie.

People Before Profit TD Paul Murphy, who was detained on two occasions in Egypt while participating in the Global March to Gaza, has said he has no regrets about what occurred as he believes elected representatives have a “much higher responsibility” to highlight the humanitarian crisis in the region. Deputy Murphy, who returned to Ireland on Tuesday, told The Hard Shoulder on Newstalk that large numbers of people in Gaza are facing starvation.

The Cork office of Taoiseach Micheál Martin has confirmed that there was an act of vandalism onsite overnight with personal threats also being made. The window of the office in Turner’s Cross in Cork was daubed with the words “Zionist pawn". The words were etched in red paint. A spokesperson for the Taoiseach confirmed that this is the third such attack on the office on the southside of Cork city.
