ST. LOUIS — Local activists filed a lawsuit on Thursday to stop a state board from controlling the St. Louis police department, marking the latest legal challenge to the takeover law. Activists Mike Milton of the Freedom Community Center and community organizer Jamala Rogers say the state takeover will derail recent progress in reducing homicides and other crime by funneling more resources to traditional policing at the expense of social programs designed to prevent crime.

Attorney Jessica Mayo’s client stood with his forearms and forehead resting against a white pillar. His eyes were fixed on the glass door of a small rectangular office: “U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement,” it said.

ST. LOUIS — Eastern Missouri's top federal prosecutor announced Tuesday she had resigned from her post after more than five years. U.S. Attorney Sayler Fleming said her resignation was effective at midnight this past Friday. Fleming did not provide a reason for her departure. Matthew Drake, who has worked for the U.S. Attorney's Office since 2002, has taken over the office temporarily, according to a news release.

ST. LOUIS — The family of a man who was shot and killed at a north St. Louis gas station said Monday it is filing a wrongful death lawsuit to hold the business responsible. John Christmas was shot and killed a year ago Monday at the Phillips 66 gas station after a tussle over a gun. The shooter, Trevell M. Warren, was sentenced to seven years in prison.

LOUIS — One of the city's most prolific convicted killers appeared in a federal courthouse on Thursday, a decade after he was first accused of running one of the largest cocaine operations in St. Louis, to learn his fate. Anthony Jordan, known as "TT," had been found guilty by a jury months earlier of murdering nine people in his quest for dominance over the drug trade.
