FOLSOM – California State Parks is trying to keep invasive golden mussels out of Folsom Lake. On April 14, mandatory inspections and a 30-day quarantine of boats not already in the water went into place. Temperatures reached the 90s Saturday, but Folsom Lake boat launch ramps were empty. Boaters who have already gone through the inspection process have just a few more days to wait until they can get their boats back in the water.

SACRAMENTO — The first American pope in history has been selected to lead the Catholic Church and its 1.4 billion followers worldwide. Out of the 266 popes we've had, none of them have been American, until now. Chicago-born Robert Prevost has been chosen to lead the church out of 133 cardinal electors, and the word of the day around Sacramento has been "hope.""I do look forward with what's to come with a sense of hope," said Bishop Jaime Soto of the Diocese of Sacramento.

YUBA CITY — A job fair in Sutter County, which has one of the highest unemployment rates in the state, saw a big turnout on Wednesday. Sutter County One Stop said 800 people pre-registered for its spring job fair, with hundreds more showing up on the day of. "There's not a lot of work around here right now," said Yuba City resident Samantha Sallaberry, who attended the event.

Yuba-Sutter schools get investments for camous gardens from Blue Zones Project YUBA CITY — In Yuba and Sutter counties, $6,000 is being invested into local schools to create and sustain campus gardens to give students hands-on experience. It's part of a larger effort, with three local schools receiving grant funding from the Blue Zones Project Yuba Sutter. Nine schools applied for the funding.

SACRAMENTO — A popular Northern California brewery is closing down all of its locations. All three locations of Device Brewing Company will be shutting their doors Sunday night. Employees say they only got two days' notice. "In literally 24 hours, pretty much, we will be shutting our doors," said bartender Luke Mitchell on Saturday. Mitchell has been with Device Brewing Company for five and a half years. But after this weekend, he won't be their employee anymore.
