MARQUETTE, Mich. (WLUC)—Westwood is set to open its 2024 season in less than two weeks, and things for the Patriots will be a little different this season as a new head coach takes over. Tyler Thomas, a 2014 graduate of Negaunee High School and St. Norbert Green Knight Alumni, will lead the Patriots this season. Thomas was most recently the head football coach at Ontonagon High School but moved to Westwood to be closer to home.

NEGAUNEE, Mich. (WLUC) - Football is in the air at Miners Stadium. Negaunee began preseason practice Monday. The Miners will look to claim another conference title in 2024. They also want to make it back to Ford Field, where their season ended with a state runner-up finish two years ago. They’ll have to do so without some key players from 2023, like Kai Lacar, James Thomson and Evan Gauthier, who all graduated last spring.

(WLUC) - Melissa Kuhar may be entering her first division two head coaching job this season, but she will lean on her experience as an assistant at Drury University to help her lead the Huskies. Kuhar says building a successful program starts with building connections. “I’m big on building those relationships and getting to know people,” Kuhar said. “Soccer is the big part of my job, but connecting with my athletes... Fredrickson has already claimed racing championships in the Tundra Race, Trickle 99 and the Alive for 5-Ice Breaker 100.
