    A draft of the Franklin — Simpson County Community Comprehensive Plan was presented to the Franklin City Commission at their March 25 meeting. No action was taken on the plan during the special called meeting at the Ag Building at Community Park. The draft of the plan can be seen on the City of Franklin’s website, www.franklinky.org. Ed Holmes and Ryan Holmes of EHI Consultants presented the draft of the plan.

    Interim Franklin-Simpson Industrial Authority Board Director Jim Decesare spoke to Simpson Fiscal Court during fiscal court’s March 19 meeting. Decesere was hired on a part time, 20-hour per week basis on March 7. Former Industrial Authority Board Director Dennis Griffin resigned in late February after serving as executive director for 25 years. He attended his first industrial authority board meeting on March 13. Decesere mentioned some of the initiatives he is going to focus on.

    A Franklin author, who has written 14 books, is producing a play based on one of her books to help raise funds for a project in the Harristown Recreation Park in Franklin. The play “Let Me Come Home” will be performed on Saturday, April 6 at the Goodnight Auditorium on South Main Street beginning at 5 p.m.Sarah Tuck wrote the book and the play that both have the same title.

    Classes for the 2024 — 2025 school year in the Simpson County School System will begin on August 14, 2024 and end on May 22, 2025. The Simpson County Board of Education gave final approval to the ’24 — ’25 school year calendar at the regular monthly meeting on March 21. There are 170 instructional days on the calendar, which is required by the state.
