Experts say the population levels of two of Wisconsin's most irritating and harmful warm-weather pests — ticks and mosquitos — should be about normal through the coming summer. Unfortunately, normal in Wisconsin means a lot of ticks and plenty of mosquitos. That's bad news for people who like to spend time in woods, forests and other habitats of ticks and mosquitos, both of which can pass along disease to humans. Mosquitos carry West Nile, forms of encephalitis and other viruses.

Health researchers at the Marshfield Clinic are once again collecting ticks found across Wisconsin, extending a study they began last year. In 2024, the Marshfield Clinic Research Institute started the Tick Inventory via Citizen Science study. It was designed to identify the ticks that were found across the state, to ascertain whether new, invasive ticks are moving into Wisconsin and to delve into details about how they spread disease.

Shawano-area artisans have created a barn quilt that will be on display during the NFL draft, to be held April 24-26 in and around Lambeau Field. The barn quilt will be part of NFL Draft Experience, a fan festival held during the draft that includes immersive exhibits and other NFL-related activities. Visitors to the Draft Experience will be able to take photos alongside the barn quilt, according to a press release from the Shawano Country Chamber of Commerce and Visitor Center.
