The building was seriously damaged in the crash, and its owner, an 83-year-old man who has been a plumber in the area since the 1960s, was left reeling.

An escaped prisoner from Johnson County is back in custody after a week-long search, the Kansas Department of Corrections announced Wednesday. U.S. Marshals took Anthony Mansfield, 36, into custody after law enforcement found him in Kansas City Wednesday, according to a press release. Mansfield had been placed on escape status when he did not report to his job or return to the Adult Residential Center in New Century on May 28.

A Kansas City area man who was wanted in connection with the shooting of a Lee's Summit police officer is in custody, state police said in a news release. A Blue Alert was canceled Tuesday after officers took Thomas Eugene Tolbert, 27, into custody, according to the Kansas Bureau of Investigation. In the early morning hours, law enforcement received a tip that Tolbert might be inside a hotel at 204 N. Washington St. in Ellis, Kansas, the KBI said in a statement.

The Gladstone Fire Department and other crews are beginning to investigate a devastating home explosion Saturday morning, officials said. Firefighters responded just after 11 a.m. to Northeast 74th Terrace and North Main Street Saturday after multiple calls from residents about the explosion. One home was completely destroyed and others nearby were damaged, according to Capt. Karl Burris, a Gladstone Police Department spokesperson. No injuries have yet been reported in the incident.
