A major joint investigation led by the Kearny Police Department and the Jersey City Police Department’s Special Investigation Unit has resulted in the arrest of six suspects connected to an organized fraud ring that targeted rideshare drivers across multiple states. On May 8, 2025, arrest and search warrants were executed in Brooklyn, Newark and Miramar, Florida. Kearny detectives were present at each location.

Two of Kearny’s greatest public servants were recognized as Police Officer and Firefighter of the Year at a special ceremony at the American Legion Post 99 — Angel Baez (Police) and Shawn B. Ford (Fire.) Both received their awards from Len Twist, the Legion’s vice-commander. Each heard a speech from their chief in honor of their accomplishments. First, it was Police Chief Scott Macfie, who spoke for Baez, 22, and who has been a police officer since he was just 19.

With four dangerous hitters on the court capable of picking up a kill at any time, Harrison’s offense is not just effective, but unpredictable. Those labels are a credit to the guy setting them all up, senior Jeremy Rivera. The quartet of Alattim DeLeon, Jonathan Petrillo, Yamil Espinoza and Ryan Manini all have 85 or more kills as part of the Blue Tide’s 18-0 start. And while the four might get the bulk of the attention and acclaim, that suits Rivera just fine.
