Hudson County Executive Craig Guy has announced major safety improvements to County Road 508 — known also as the Newark-Jersey City Turnpike — in Kearny, the location of a deadly crash that took two lives May 16. The safety improvements are in accordance with the Vision Zero Action Plan the County Executive launched in January.

Two Staten Islanders are in serious trouble after they allegedly attempted to pass counterfeit money at the Belleville Turnpike CVS in North Arlington, Capt. Rui Encarnacao, of the North Arlington Police Department, said. According to Encarnacao:On Sunday, June 22, 2025, the North Arlington PD responded to a report of multiple individuals attempting to make purchases with suspected counterfeit U.S. currency at the pharmacy.

The North Arlington Board of Education says it intends to apply eminent domain to seize the La Salle Center property — part of the Queen of Peace parish on Ridge Road — to use it for public-school classrooms. However, Superintendent of Schools Steven Yurchak says he still hopes to negotiate with the parish to find an acceptable solution before using eminent domain.

The North Arlington Board of Education will seek to seize Queen of Peace’s La Salle Center, seen above, on Ridge Road, and transform it into pre-K classes, via eminent domain, but the Archdiocese of Newark is vowing to fight it to the bitter end, The Observer has learned. The Observer has phone calls out to Board of Education President George McDermott and Superintendent of Schools Steve Yurchak and we will report back if we hear back from either or both.
