STURGEON BAY - A 33-year-old man was sentenced to 20 years in prison April 14 for a 2022 incident that involved attacking a woman with a hedge trimmer. Jacob Miller, then of Sturgeon Bay but currently a resident of a Maryland prison, had entered a residence on Georgia Street in Sturgeon Bay on April 25, 2022, leading to multiple charges including attempted first-degree intentional homicide.

OCONTO COUNTY - Voters have decided who they want to represent their interests on their local boards. Residents of the county's three cities, two villages, 23 townships and 10 school districts went to the polls Tuesday in the spring election. Most of the contests were unopposed, but with three statewide elections also on the ballot, including a spot on the Wisconsin Supreme Court, 53% of eligible Oconto County residents cast their votes.

OCONTO - A former Oconto resident was sentenced to time served Tuesday for causing mental harm to a child. Joshua L. Dickinson, 46, of Portage, had already been convicted by a jury on Nov. 5, 2021, of repeated sexual assault of a child and sentenced to six years in prison. Oconto voters in November backed expanding the Common Council from six seats to eight, so instead of the two seats originally set to be filled this spring, now voters will select four candidates. Seven people earned a spot on the ballot, but the race ended up shrinking even prior to votes being cast. Mike Feldt notified Mayor Cliff Martin on March 12 that he is withdrawing as a candidate.
