The union representing frontline VTA workers in Silicon Valley put the transit agency on notice Thursday that they are planning to strike, starting after midnight on Monday. Amalgamated Transit Union Local 265, representing more than 1,500 VTA workers that include bus and light rail operators, notified the Santa Clara Valley Transportation Authority board of the planned strike at its Thursday meeting. The notice comes in the wake of stalled contract negotiations.

Moffett Boulevard is currently one of the most dicey routes to ride a bike in Mountain View, but that could change soon. City officials are planning to add protected bike lanes spanning most of the roadway, with a goal of kicking off construction next year. The scope of the project extends from the Middlefield Road intersection all the way up to RT Jones Road and Clark Road, where Moffett terminates past U.S. Highway 101.

Operation Second Chance gives eligible individuals with a non-violent misdemeanor criminal warrant a chance to turn themselves in to any Santa Clara law enforcement agency and get a citation with a new court date instead of being booked into jail.

Joan Brammer passed away unexpectedly on October 29, 2024, at her home in the Hampshire in Merced, California. She was born in Richmond, California, on March 24, 1932. The family moved to Los Angeles during the buildup to World War II as her father, Willard, was an aviation metalsmith. In 1941 they moved to Alameda, where Willard worked at the Alameda Naval Air Station for 27 years.
