ST. LOUIS — A band of thieves breaking into cars near Carondelet Park early Friday fired shots that killed one of their accomplices, a 16-year-old boy, after a homeowner interrupted them, police said. The resident apparently had fired a warning shot into the ground after spotting the group breaking into cars about 2:10 a.m. in the 6300 block of Vermont Avenue. Police have made no arrests but believe the shot that killed the boy came from his friends -- not from the homeowner.

SOUTH ST. LOUIS COUNTY — Two police officers were standing on Dr. Aleksandr G. Lanis' front porch one morning this spring. They needed to arrest him. The interaction started off cordially, according to body-camera footage released Thursday. The officers, both from St. Louis County police, were almost apologetic. "Hey, Dr. Lanis?" one officer said when Lanis opened the door. "Hi. How are you guys?" Lanis said. Over the next 3 minutes the meeting turned from a polite inquiry to gunfire.

ST. LOUIS — Two bodies were discovered an hour apart in north St. Louis on Tuesday morning. The first body, a woman, was found about 7:50 a.m. in the 2100 block of East Grand Boulevard. Then, about an hour later, a man was found dead about two blocks away in the 1900 block of East Obear Avenue. Mitch McCoy, a department spokesman, did not immediately release other details except that homicide detectives will be investigating both deaths.

GRANITE CITY — Madison County prosecutors this week charged three people in the shooting death of a St. Louis man. DeWayne Franklin, 41, of St. Louis, and Michael E. McCollum, 75, of the Florissant area, were jailed Tuesday in St. Louis County. Police were searching for co-defendant Brittany Howard, 37, of St. Louis. The body of Kenneth L. The crash was shortly before 9 p.m. Thursday as the helicopter was taking off from the Hartford fire station, according to Air Methods. One of the crew members suffered a back injury. One had a head injury, and one had back, neck and head injuries.
