A “so Florida” thing to do is coming up: a potential SpaceX rocket launch. SpaceX plans to send a Falcon 9 rocket with several Starlink satellites into orbit. And depending on weather and visibility, there could be a show in the sky above Palm Beach County. Liftoff is tentatively set late Saturday, April 5, if things go according to plan for the space agency. Rockets launch from Kennedy Space Center and Cape Canaveral, Florida, in Brevard County, which is an hour east of the Orlando theme parks.

More than 850 people participated in the 2024 Python Challenge, a 10-day hunt aimed at raising awareness of destruction caused by the invasive species in the fragile Florida Everglades. But there could be just one winner of the $10,000 grand prize, and that was Ronald Kiger of Marion County, who brought in 20 Burmese pythons during the contest. Kiger's triumph was announced at Tuesday's Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission meeting in Duck Key.

For the first time ever, researchers have found evidence of a top-of-the-food chain shark being killed by a predator, according to a study published recently in the peer-reviewed journal Frontiers in Marine Science. The team of scientists who wrote the study had set out to research pregnant porbeagle sharks and track their movements because they're endangered in many parts of the world.
